Colorful Summer Press on Nails for Beginners

Essential Tips for Maintaining Press On Nails as a Beginner

Press on nails are a convenient and affordable way to achieve a salon-quality manicure at home. As a beginner, it's important to know how to properly care for your press ons to ensure they last as long as possible. Here are some essential tips for maintaining press on nails:

1. Choosing the Right Press on Nails

As a novice, it is important to consider your natural nail shape and size when choosing the right press on nails.  Additionally, think about the activities you will be doing or events you will be attending while wearing your press ons.

Some other things to consider are what features do you want to enhance. Such as choosing almond-shaped or stiletto-shaped press on nails can elongate a look. Or choosing colors such as pink press on designs can complement your skin tone. You can explore different designs and styles of press-on nails, such as matte, glossy, or even ones with unique patterns or accents.

Regardless of the shape or finish of the press on nail you choose, as a newbie to wearing press ons, it's recommended to start with shorter lengths  for easier application and maintenance.

Medium press on nail lengths may be appropriate if you already have long natural nails. As a beginner, it will require more maintenance.

2. Choose the Right Size

It's crucial to select press on nails that fit your natural nail size. Using nails that are too big or too small can cause them to lift or break prematurely. Take the time to find the perfect fit for each nail and lay them out in the order you will be applying them.

Thankfully, Flower Plum press on nails are numbered at the tip to make it easier to choose the right size. Please refer to our size guide for assistance.

Here's a pro tip: the smaller the number, the larger the size of the press-on nails.

3. Apply with Precision

Before applying press on nails, it is essential to prep your natural nails. In the Flower Plum Press on Nail Kits you are provided with a mini nail file to file/buff nails, a cuticle stick to gently push back cuticles, an alcohol swab to gently clean away any residue, nail glue and nail tabs to adhere press ons to your natural nail.

Pro Tip: You can use a nail polish remover to further remove any oils or residue after using the alcohol swab. This will ensure your natural nails surface is fully prepped for the press ons to adhere to.

When applying press on nails, line up the base of the press ons to the base of your natural nail at a 45 degree angle and press down firmly onto your natural nails holding for 30 seconds for a secure bond. Avoid getting any air bubbles trapped underneath the press ons, as this can cause them to lift sooner.

4. Avoid Harsh Chemicals

While wearing press on nails, it's best to avoid exposing them to harsh chemicals such as acetone or bleach. These substances can weaken the adhesive and cause the press ons to come off prematurely.

5. Be Gentle with Your Hands

Try to be mindful of your press on nails and avoid using them as tools for opening cans or scratching surfaces. Treat them with care to prevent any unnecessary damage or premature lifting.

Avoid exposing them to excessive water, as this can weaken the adhesive. If you need to wash your hands, use lukewarm water and mild soap, and pat your nails dry gently.

Lightly moisturizing your cuticles and nails regularly can also help keep your press ons looking fresh. Apply small amount of cuticle oil or a moisturizing hand cream to keep your nails and surrounding skin hydrated.

6. Regular Maintenance

As your natural nails grow, you may notice a small gap between the press on nail and your cuticle. To maintain the look of your manicure, gently push back your cuticles and apply a tiny amount of nail glue to secure the press on in place, if so desired.

By following these essential tips for maintaining press on nails as a beginner, you can enjoy a long-lasting and flawless manicure.
